16. Lewis and Clark Native Plant Garden

Lewis and Clark Native Plant Garden

The Lewis and Clark Native Plant Garden opened on May 15, 2006.  It features over 100 plants that Lewis described in his journals as the expedition traveled between Great Falls, Montana and The Dalles, Oregon.  It is divided into four plant communities – Canyon, Prairie, Mountain, and Wetland.

The roof of the Gathering Place structure is planted with sedum, grasses and wildflowers.  Honeysuckle and clematis vines climb up metal trellis.  The interpretive panels inside the Gathering Place describe the journey of the Corps of Discovery from St Louis, Missouri to the Pacific Ocean and back.
